FISH

The term FISH stands for Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization is known as a specific type of molecular technique. Fluorescent labeled probes are used in this technique for detecting chromosomal disorders. High precision and accuracy are two major advantages of this technique.

This technique is also known as a cytogenetics test, which is also used to localize DNA sequences on the chromosomes. Mainly, chromosome abnormalities that can not be detected through any standard chromosomal analysis, can be detected through this technique.

Strength of Fish Include

  • Precise diagnosis that involves the using of probes.
  • Any kind of cell can be tested at any stage.
  • It doesn’t involve culturing cells and that is why rapid reporting is possible.
  • It may also support a superior chromosomal study.

Fish tests

  1. FISH: Down’s Syndrome
  2. FISH: Chromosome 18/X/Y
  3. FISH: Chromosome: 13/21
  4. FISH: Sex chromosome abnormalities
  5. Aneuploidy FISH: Chromosome 13, 18, 21, X and Y

Sample Requirement: 3ml blood is required in any Barcoded and genuine Sodium-Heparin sample-collection tube. Besides, 3-5 days of TAT should be given if all the necessary documents have been submitted within the given time.

FISH significance

  • FISH is considered as one of the most high resolution chromosome tests.
  • This test helps to analyze chromosome shape and structure as well as the number.
  • This test is known for its high sensitivity and also for generating results quickly.
  • If there are any genetic causes behind any kind of abnormal physical characteristics, then it can be determined through this test.
